The small town of Soda Springs in the far southeastern corner of Idaho is trying to understand the reason for the shotgun slaying of a bank teller in a daylight robbery.
Timothy Alan Dunlap, 23, of Sellersburg, Ind., is being held in Bonneville County Jail after being arraigned Thursday on charges of first-degree murder and robbery."It's a serious tragedy for a small community," Soda Springs Police Chief Blynn Wilcox said. "It affects almost everyone. We're gratified with the help we've had from other agencies."
Dunlap is accused of killing Security State Bank teller Tonya Hunsaker, 24, Soda Springs, with a sawed-off shotgun during a robbery Wednesday morning.
"She cooperated fully with him," Lt. Joe Rice said. "Rarely do we have a violent crime like that. I've been here 17 years and we've never had a bank robbery."
An Oct. 28 preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dunlap.
He also is wanted for questioning in an Ohio homicide. Dunlap was arrested Wednesday afternoon in a remote area of the Caribou National Forest, about 40 miles northeast of Soda Springs. Police said they found a crossbow and shotgun in his car.
Cincinnati authorities said Dunlap was a suspect in the slaying of a woman whose body was found during the weekend along the Ohio River. The woman, who had been missing since Oct. 4, was identified as Belinda Bolanos, 32, of Hamilton, Ohio. She was shot at least once in the chest with an arrow, police Sgt. John Jay said.
Cincinnati police said Bolanos had a former boyfriend named Tim Dunlap. Cincinnati homicide detective K. Johnson said Wednesday that Cincinnati police were working with Idaho authorities but had not made a positive identification of the Idaho suspect as Bolanos' former boyfriend.
Wilcox said Dunlap had used the alias Steve Bolanos.
