Boy, what are the odds?

The last time Weber was in the I-AA NCAA playoffs, the 1987 Wildcats lost to Marshall University 51-23 at Huntington, W.Va. The Thundering Herd had a freshman placekicker, Brian Mitchell, who made a 30-yard field goal and was 6-for-7 on extra points. Now the 'Cats make their second playoff appearance, at Northern Iowa, and they find the exact same Brian Mitchell placekicking for the Panthers, a two-time All-American and fifth-year senior who has made 101 straight extra points.

Mitchell, wanting to kick in a dome, transferred to UNI after helping to beat Weber in '87. "He simply called and walked on," says coach Terry Allen.

"Isn't that something?" says Weber coach Dave Arslanian. "We're in the playoffs two times in five years and face the same kicker."
