Salt Lake's Jan Bucher finished second in the World Freestyle Skiing Championships in ballet competition on Monday.

The event was won by Ellen Breen of West Hills, Calif. She scored a 28.10. Bucher finished with 27.70, while Cathy Fechoz of France, third in the event, scored a 25.50.Competition continued Tuesday with the men's ballet. The women's mogul event will be Wednesday.

Bucher, who has been suffering from an arm injury this season, said she felt good in the preliminaries.

"But my arm was giving me some problems in the finals. I wasn't as strong as I would have liked to be," she said.

Over her 12-year career, Bucher has won 63 events, eight World Cup titles and two World Ballet crowns (1986 and 1989). In the 1988 Olympics, where freestyle skiing was a demonstration event, she won a silver medal.
