Charles Reid Bird, 76, passed away March 8, 1991, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born February 18, 1915, in Salt Lake City, to Charles William and Alice Reid Bird. He married Marian Bricker, July 1, 1936 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple; she preceded him in death on May 2,1983. He married Frances Burnham on July 5, 1984 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Graduated from Granite High School and Stevens Henager Business College. Worked for Kennecott Copper Corp. for 42 years.He loved music, and as a young man played saxophone and clarinet in the Dance Orchestra at the Business College and was a vocal soloist for several orchestras. He sang in the Tabernacle Choir for 41 years and in the Swanee Singers for 54 years. He was President of the Swanee Singers for 28 years.
In the community he served as an officer in the following: Kiwanis, the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, National Sons of the Utah Pioneers, United Way, Children's Service Society and the Community Services Council. He served on the Board of Directors of the Cypress Credit Union for 26 years and as its Vice President for 8years.
A member of the LDS Church, he participated in many church positions over a lifetime of service and spent his last years as a worker in the Salt Lake Temple.
Survived by his wife Frances Burnham; six daughters, Sherry Linebaugh, Linda Thorpe, Annette Mackay, Connie Taylor, Marcia Fullmer and Julie Waters; 31 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Ashton; and a brother, Lawrence W. Bird. Preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Bricker Bird; a daughter Donna Sumner; and three sisters, Mildred Gerrard, Evelyn Williamson and Geneva Allred.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 12, 1991, 12 noon, at the Rosecrest First Ward, 3101 South 2300 East, with Bishop David Towers officiating. Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Holbrook Funeral Chapel, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
