Penny Hammel shot a 66 to erase a two-stroke deficit and defeat second-round leader Beth Daniel for the championship of the Desert Inn LPGA International on Sunday. Hammel, with a 54-hole total of 3-under 211, finished one shot ahead of Daniel.

Hammel had six birdies and no bogeys and Daniel had a final-round 69. Last year's leading money winner missed a chance for a playoff when her 18-foot birdie attempt on the final hole slid to the right of the cup.
