Thomas N. Huckin, University of Utah Writing Program director and associate professor of English, has been honored for his work on two textbooks.

The Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication has awarded him its highest distinction, "Best of Show," for "Technical Writing and Professional Communication for Non-native Speakers of English." The book's co-author is Leslie A. Olsen, a professor at the University of Michigan.The association's third-highest award of merit has been given to another book written by Huckin, "Technical Writing and Professional Communication." The society is the major professional organization in the field.

The textbooks, published by McGraw-Hill Book Co., also won the Intermountain Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication's second-highest award.

Huckin has taught at the University of Michigan, Carnegie-Mellon University and has served as a visiting professor in Brazil and the Netherlands. He earned a doctorate in linguistics at the University of Washington.
