Sunday, January 12, 1992 the Heavens opened and the Lord gathered into his arms his rarest gem, our beloved mother, Alberta Johnson Banks, age 76, died of lung cancer at the home of her daughter.

Alberta was born March 22, 1915 in Gillmore, Idaho to Martha Howell and Julian Harold Johnson. She married Joseph Peter Banks August 21, 1937. They were the parents of 10 children. Alberta was a graduate of BYU with a bachelor's degree in social work. She was a nurse, a teacher, foster parent and humanitarian.She was a member of the LDS Church where she served in many capacities including four missions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Joseph, a daughter, Linda. Survived by daughters, Mrs. Carl (Penny) Loback, Kearns; Mrs. Gene (Grace) Nielsen, Mapleton; Mrs.

Nicholas (Beverly) Beardall, Orem; Mrs. Paul

(Rosella) Arrington, Provo; P.R. (Pauline) Banks, Salt Lake City; sons, Leonard Banks, Bismark, North Dakota; Steven Banks, Provo; Golden

Kimberly Banks, Mapleton; 31 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 16, 1992, 12 noon at the Mapleton 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 1215 North 1000 West, Mapleton. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center, and Thursday at the church from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment: Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
