Prime Minister Charles Haughey, whose government has survived financial scandals and unrest in his Fianna Fail Party, Wednesday denied accusations that he conspired in a wiretapping scandal 10 years ago.

Sean Doherty, who as minister of justice in 1982 ordered the tapping of the telephones of two journalists, made the allegations after resigning Tuesday as speaker of the Senate."As soon as the transcripts from the tapes became available I took them personally to Mr. Haughey in his office and left them in his possession," Doherty told reporters Tuesday.

At a news conference Wednesday, Haughey disputed that account.
