New Orleans-born jazz pianist "Champion" Jack Dupree, whose barrelhouse style influenced rock musicians including Eric Clapton and John Mayall, has died of cancer at age 82.

Dupree's agent, Karsten Jahnke, said Dupree kept performing until last November despite his illness and died at his home in Hanover, where he had lived since 1975.Dupree lived in Europe since 1958 and often performed in clubs in Britain where Clapton, Mayall and others learned from his rollicking style.
