M.J. "Mike" Frankovich, who produced such movies as "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice" and John Wayne's last film, "The Shootist," has died. He was 83.
Frankovich died Wednesday of pneumonia. He also suffered from Alzheimer's disease.Frankovich became a director and executive for Columbia Pictures' British operation after World War II. He rose to become the studio's worldwide production chief.
He oversaw production of such classic films as "Cat Ballou" with Lee Marvin, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" with Sidney Poitier and Katharine Hepburn, and the fact-based "In Cold Blood" and "A Man for All Seasons."
