In my daily life, with a car, I found it very easy to forget that there are thousands of senior citizens and disabled citizens who do not drive and are dependent upon other means of transportation. I became more aware of this about two years ago when an elderly neighbor asked me for a ride to her doctor. She wants to be independent and not burden anyone but is unable to drive.
She now has a very inexpensive bus pass, uses the buses, feels more independent and is able to live a normal life. She is very happy with the system but wishes that the buses came more often and that there were service on Sunday. The proposed system expansion includes starting Sunday service in January. They also expect the buses to come by every 10 minutes on the major streets during the week.
I think it is very important to have an inexpensive, reliable and more flexible public transportation system in our valley. This will make it much easier for so many of our citizens who cannot or do not want to drive a car. I will be voting for it in November.
