Clela Bailey Jorgensen died from pancreatic cancer December 30, 1992 at her home in Salt Lake City.
Born in Moroni, Utah, September 20, 1907, the daughter of Gilbert Bailey and Chloe Cook Bailey. Clela graduated from Nephi High School in 1925. She earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Utah in 1927, where she affiliated with the Delta Gamma social sorority. While teaching school in Junction, Utah, Clela met J. Norman Jorgensen. They were married in Nephi, Utah in 1929. Clela and Norm resided in several cities on the West Coast before settling in Salt Lake in 1934. Clela was active in a wide variety of church and service organizations, serving as a member of the YWMIA General Board for 10 years, holding a national office (Treasurer) in the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and serving in a wide variety of positions with, among other groups, Delta Gamma, Pi Kappa Alpha Mother's Club, the Exchange Club Womens' Auxiliary, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Womens' Legislative Council, the Bonneville Ward, and the Bonneville Stake. She joined her husband in operating a flower shop in downtown Salt Lake City (The Rose Shop) for several years, managing it for five years after his death in 1973.Clela's eldest son, Robert N., an attorney, preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, Joseph G., a professor, Craig B., an attorney; and David G., businessman, all residing in California; seven grandchildren, Geoffrey Cowley (New York City), Eric, Matthew, Jennifer, Thomas, Brigham, and Sarah (all of California); one great-grandchild Colin Cowley (New York City); two daughters-in-law, Judy C. and Annette T.; three brothers, Monte D. Bailey, Maynard C. Bailey, and Bryce R. Bailey; and four sisters-in-law, whose love she cherished, Marjorie, Orvilla, Renee, and Frances Bailey. Clela was especially fond of her many surviving cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Her work in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brought Clela great joy.
Funeral services Saturday, January 2, 1993, 12 noon, Bonneville Stake Center, 1535 East Bonneview Drive. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Friday evening 6-8 p.m., and Saturday at the Stake Center, 10:45-11:45 a.m. Burial: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
