A gunman went on a rampage Saturday through a rural community, killing four people and wounding three others before driving off in a van, police said.

Police were searching Saturday for Jason Oric Williams, 24. They said he apparently quarreled with Gerald and Claire Paravicini, a couple he lived with in this town 7 miles southwest of Mobile.Paravicini was found shot to death in the road outside his home, and his wife had been badly beaten with the .22-caliber rifle used in the slaying, spokesman Gardner Wilcox said.

Mrs. Paravicini's 16-year-old son, Jeffrey Carr, also was shot but survived, Wilcox said. Also killed were neighbors Fred and Linda Barber and their 23-year-old son, Bryan, Wilcox said.
