The popularity of French socialist Prime Minister Edith Cresson has sunk to a new low, according to an opinion poll released ahead of publication Sunday, only a week before regional elections.

The IFOP survey, to be published in the Journal du Dimanche, put her approval rating at 19 percent, down two percent from last month. Socialist President Francois Mitterrand's rating, which had been at an all-time low, rose two points to 26 percent.The ruling Socialist Party is seen heading for a rout in the March 22 elections, the first nationwide poll in three years.
