Hilary Duff pulled out a surprise to try onstage during her “Lucky Me” tour stop at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre Friday night.
The music and television star opened up a pink mini fridge onstage to reveal a small “dirty Diet Coke” from Utah soda shop Swig. The flavors were Diet Coke, coconut and lime.
“Oooh, it is good,” Duff said.
After trying the drink, Duff admitted this was her second “dirty soda” since coming to Utah that day. The drink she tried earlier was Sprite, strawberry syrup, cherry syrup and coconut cream.
The ‘dirty soda’ trend in Utah
This isn’t the first time a celebrity has come to Utah and savored in the famous drink of the state.
Olivia Rodrigo made waves when she posted a photo holding a 32-ounce styrofoam Swig cup in October 2021.
The New York Times grabbed hold of the trend and wrote all about it in December 2021.
Swig also makes quite the splash on the reality television show “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” The women on the show often frequent the drink shop and are often seen with one of the signature styrofoam cups in hand.
Trying a “dirty soda” has become known as a signature Utah experience. The Beehive State is host to multiple competing franchises such as Swig, Sodalicious, Thirst and Fiiz, among others that continue to pop up.
Before continuing her set to the roaring Utah crowd Friday night, Duff took another sip of the drink and joked, “I love me some Swig.”

What’s new with Hilary Duff?
Duff played to a crowd of 25,000 Friday night as a stop on her “Lucky Me” tour. It was the biggest crowd of her tour so far.
It was also the first time she has performed in Utah since 2004. She told the crowd she and her family try to come to Utah at least once a year to go skiing.
The pop star released a new album in February called “luck... or something,” marking a return to the music world after going on a hiatus for the last 20 years.
Duff is the mother of four children and is currently married to Matthew Koma, with whom she shares three daughters. Her son is from a previous marriage, per People magazine.
Her most recent acting projects include “How I Met Your Father,” streaming on Hulu, and “Younger,” streaming on Netflix.
Friday night’s show brought a mix of nostalgia, playing some of her classic hits like “Why Not” and “So Yesterday,” along with some of her new songs like “Mature” and “Roommates.”
Aside from the Swig of it all, the peak moment of the night was when Duff concluded the show with the 2000s hit song “What Dreams Are Made Of” from her hit movie “The Lizzie McGuire Movie.”
All the millennials in the crowd chanted right along to the words as massive beach balls bopped through the crowd and the front rows were sprayed with a shower of butterfly-shaped confetti for one magical night.
