The $1 million interior renovation of the Newgate Mall, which began in January, is expected to be complete in March.

"We're conducting the renovation work in a way that allows all retailers to remain open during the construction," said Maurice Herbert, Newgate Mall general manager. "When completed, the mall will have a dramatic new look."The renovation includes replacement of the existing wooden parquet and brick paved floor with a ceramic tile with marble and granite accents throughout the mall; remodeling of the existing food court with installation of new tables and chairs; replacing ficus trees and planters in the mall's transitional courts with large landscape pots; and replacement of existing light fixtures.

The mall, owned by Homart Development Co., opened in 1981. Homart is the real estate development and management arm of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group, a member of the Sears Financial Network. The mall is anchored by Sears and Mervyn's.
