A man smiled and prayed before he was electrocuted early Friday for hiring two men to kill his pregnant wife.

Larry Gene Heath, who found religion in prison, prayed and asked the woman's family for forgiveness."If this is what it takes for there to be healing in their lives, so be it," he said. "Father, I ask for forgiveness for my sins."

Heath, 40, made no final attempt to appeal his sentence for the 1981 slaying of Rebecca Heath.

Gov. Guy Hunt on Tuesday denied a request for clemency from Heath's supporters, including a group of ministers.
