Chad Hennings, who won the Outland Trophy as college football's top lineman in 1987, worked out Saturday for Dallas and declared himself ready to fulfill a contract he signed with the Cowboys four years ago.

Hennings, the Western Athletic Conference defensive player of the year following his senior year at Air Force, was supposed to remain as a fighter pilot with the U.S. Air Force until 1997.But three weeks ago, he learned his obligation was waived, making him immediately available to the Cowboys.

Dallas Coach Jimmy Johnson said he was impressed by the agility and speed Hennings displayed during pass-rushing drills Saturday. He said he was looking at the 6-6, 272-pound Hennings as defensive end.

"He's in tremendous condition," Johnson said. "He could step in right now and be one of the strongest players on our football team."
