Box office business was down last weekend because of the riots in Los Angeles and elsewhere across the country.
"Basic Instinct," the sexual thriller starring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone, was No. 1 again, with a weak $4 million in tickets sold, and many movies fell more than 50 percent in receipts, Exhibitor Relations Co. reported.Three new movies - "K2," "Leaving Normal" and "Turtle Beach" - did not crack the Top 10.
A citywide curfew over the weekend closed Los Angeles theaters, which account for as much as 5 percent of tickets sold domestically.
Among other recent releases, Tom Selleck's comedy "Folks" premiered in fifth place with $2.2 million, and the Hollywood satire "The Player" made $1.7 million for sixth.
