The Western Football Conference will become an NCAA Division I-AA football conference effective with the 1993 collegiate football season, WFC Commissioner Vic Buccola announced Friday.

The WFC, of which Southern Utah University is a member, began in 1982 and has been one of the most successful Division II football conferences since its inception. However, recent changes to the NCAA Constitution and Bylaws require that all Division I universities compete in all sports at the Division I level. Four members of the WFC are currently Division I members or have applied for Division I membership.
