Duke All-American Christian Laettner, who won a gold medal as the U.S. Olympic basketball team captured the Tournament of Americas, has grabbed another prize.

Laettner, who won his medal Sunday in Portland, Ore., has completed the necessary work for his degree from Duke.He took part in graduation ceremonies in May, even though Laettner was one course short of graduation. But he completed work on a Sociology course during the first session of summer school before joining the Olympic team on the West Coast.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski's teams enjoyed a 100 percent graduation rate until 1990, when all three seniors on that Final Four team failed to earn their degrees on time. As a result, the Duke coach has refused to hang the '90 Final Four banner in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
