Filmmaker Sam Shepard announced completion of "Silent Tongue," a Western set in 1873, starring Alan Bates, Richard Harris and River Phoenix.

Shepard, who wrote and directed "Silent Tongue," filmed his picture on locations near Roswell, N.M., at local ranches. It is the first American movie entirely financed by French-based companies.Supporting cast of the ghost story, set in the Southwest prairie, includes Dermot Mulroney, Sheila Tousey, Tantu Cardinal and Jeri Arredondo.
