The Western Athletic Conference and the Delta Center celebrated their marriage with a news conference.
The news conference was held Tuesday to detail dates and ticket prices for the WAC men's and women's basketball tournament March 10-13 at the Delta Center, the home of the Utah Jazz of the NBA and the Salt Lake Golden Eagles of the International Hockey League.But mostly it gave WAC and Delta Center officials an opportunity to express happiness at their new relationship.
"The chance to have our tournament in a facility like the Delta Center and perhaps create a permanent tournament site is an exciting prospect for Western Athletic Conference basketball," said Joe Kearney, WAC commissioner.
"We hope it is the beginning of a long-term relationship," said Scott Williams, Delta Center manager.
After rotating its basketball tournament to different sites every year, the league sought a permanent location in the hope of boosting revenue.
The Pit, New Mexico's home court, and the Delta Center were the top choices.
"The fact that we were a neutral site was crucial," said Williams.
Package seats for the tournament will be $80, with $100 for seats in the first five rows.
