Piccard wins men's World Cup giant slalom
SOLDEN, Austria - Franck Piccard won a men's giant slalom Saturday in the World Cup opener. Piccard had a total time of 1 minute, 56.32 seconds, edging Sweden's Fredrik Nyberg by .12 seconds and Norway's Kjetil Andre Aamodt by .24 seconds. The next Cup races, a slalom and a giant slalom, will be at Park City Nov. 27-28.

Aggie football players found innocent
LOGAN, Utah - Two Utah State University football players have been found innocent of charges of simple assault stemming from the beating of a Riverton woman during a party here last spring.
A three-man, one-woman jury in Logan Municipal Court deliberated for more than an hour Friday evening before returning the verdict.
USU starting cornerback Efrem Haymore, 22, was acquitted of assault and a charge of resisting arrest.
Reserve wide receiver Wendell "Shawn" Johnson, 21, was acquitted on the assault charge, but convicted of resisting arrest. Judge Cheryl Russell-Hackelman scheduled his sentencing for Dec. 3.
BYU swimmers get wins
RENO, Nev. - Freshman Cherrill Haws, Sandy, and sophomore Jennifer Waterbury, Bountiful, were the only BYU swimmers to win an event at the University of Nevada Four Way Double Dual in Reno Saturday.
Haws captured the 1,000 freestyle in 10:31.24 and Waterbury took the 200 breaststroke in 2;26.97. The hosting Wolfpack squad swam away with the meet by nabbing 12 of 14 events.
Utah spikers nab WAC victory over CSU
The University of Utah women's volleyball team improved its record to 19-7 overall and 5-4 in the Western Athletic Conference, defeating Colorado State in four games, 8-15, 15-6, 15-6, and 15-13. CSU was ranked 20th in the nation coming into this weekend.
Cougar volleyball team knocks off Wyoming
Wyoming became the latest victim of BYU's 4th-ranked volleyball team by losing to the Cougars 15-1, 15-8, 15-6 in a WAC match in the Smith Fieldhouse Saturday.
BYU now sports an 18-1 overall record and a perfect 9-0 WAC mark. Wyoming dropped to 10-12, 2-7.
