DIRECTIONS: Take Manti/Price exit off I-15 south of Provo, and head east up Spanish Fork Canyon. About 10 miles from turnoff look for sign to Diamond Fork. A section of the road is paved, but most is dirt.
DESCRIPTION: This stream flows from the tunnel that comes over from Strawberry Reservoir through Fifth Water Canyon. Upper sections pass through pines and aspens on a fairly good gradient before flattening at lower elevations. Here, the stream runs through sagebrush and cedars. Stream is between 10 and 20 feet wide.
FISH:
BROWN, RAINBOW, CUTTHROAT
WHAT WORKS
For dry flies try caddis patterns such as Adams, Elk Hair Caddis, Royal Wulff and Stimulator. Also, in season, try grasshopper patterns. This is a good water for nymphs like bead-head Pheasant Tail or bead-head Caddis, Prince Nymph and Renegade. Streams in dark patterns work well in fall.
DETAILS
This is a very productive water that is relatively easy to fish. Does not fish well during stormy weather, because water is easily clouded with silt and mud. Check weather before heading there. Some dense vegetation along upper sections, but opens up on lower. Some of the best fishing is six or seven miles above campground.
NOTES
This is stream that is good for all levels - beginners to experts. Can be difficult when the roads are wet. Noted for good fishing and some larger fish. There are three campgrounds in the area. Close enough to the Wasatch Front to be a good one-day fishing spot.
