City Council members have asked City Attorney Don Eyre Jr. to write a draft of a family and medical leave policy to be adopted by the city in the future.
The 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act passed by Congress requires all entities to have such policies."The basic requirements are that those who have worked for an entity for 12 months are entitled to leave for certain reasons," said Randy McKnight, city administrator.

Those leaves are designed for employees who give birth, adopt, take in a foster child who is ill or who must care for a member of the family who is suffering a long-term illness.
