BYU's women's basketball team found Texas to be a tough place to play this weekend. After losing to national power Texas on Friday, the Cougars dropped a 78-68 decision to Southwest Texas on Saturday.
Three Cougars scored in double figures Saturday, led by sophomore point guard Cindy Pierce's career high 19 points. Veterans Thais Kidd and Nikki Eyre added 13 each.BYU hit a sizzling 53.8 percent and held SWT to just 35.5 in the first half to pull out to a 35-30 lead at the break. In the second stanza, the roles were reversed. SWT shot a hot 54.3 percent while BYU cooled off to 40.6 and outscored the Cougars 48-33 in the second period.
Starting for the second time this season, Orem freshman Liz Pinegar topped the Cougars in rebounds with eight.
BYU was hurt by turnovers, losing the ball 25 times in the game and recording just eight steals.
The Cougars, 4-4 on the season, return home after Christmas to host their own Holiday Classic Dec. 29 and 30.
