The current administration has made public certain information concerning nuclear testing, plutonium storage sites and other previously classified information.
I haven't been aware of the public clamoring for this information, but it certainly has opened up a Pandora's box for attorneys, opportunists, dissenters and possibly our enemies.Wouldn't it have made more sense if the information were reclassified so that those who have legitimate purposes could obtain it without making the information public?
We have been put on notice that more of this previously classified information will be forthcoming. Although I have read where others have defended this position, I do not.
Somehow, I believe that the patriotism of our citizens will be diminished by much of this news. Not that what has taken place was necessarily wrong, but that the media will give it the wrong connotation.
Why should the entire world know where the U.S. is storing its plutonium reserves and other sensitive information? Maybe the threat of Russian aggression is over for now, but there are other countries who are not friendly to the United States who may find this information very useful for sabotage or other devious purposes.
Sometimes I get the feeling that a bunch of school kids are running the country with about as much experience and common sense. I just hope that the national interest will not be sacrificed by those in power who are either too foolish or self-serving to evaluate these decision fully before implementing them.
