Novelist-screenwriter Horton Foote will be given the Writers Guild of America's Screen Laurel Award for 1993 at the guild's annual awards banquet later this month.

The Texas-born Foote brought "Tender Mercies" and "The Trip to Bountiful" to the screen. The latter screenplay received an Oscar nomination and the Writers Guild of America nomination for best screenplay.He won the Oscar in 1962 for his adaptation of Harper Lee's novel "To Kill a Mockingbird." His other films include "The Chase," "Baby, The Rain Must Fall" and "Hurry Sundown."
