Sharon B. Emerson, a University of Utah research professor of biology, has been appointed to a one-year directorship for the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Emerson will serve as director of the Functional and Phy-siological Ecology Program that reviews grant requests from researchers all over the nation.Some NSF program directors are rotated annually to keep them closer to the concerns of working scientists. Emerson was chosen for her expertise in organismal biology.
