- Women's track - Anu Kaljurand, BYU's All-American track star from Tallinn, Estonia, is one of 15 outstanding NCAA Division I athletes selected to the 1993 GTE/CoSIDA Women's At-Large Academic All-America First Team. Kaljurand, the 1992 NCAA heptathlon champion, will graduate from BYU in August with a cumulative GPA of 3.81 in business management and Russian. She will continue her studies at BYU in the MBA program.
While competing for BYU, Kaljurand earned four All-America awards, three in the heptathlon and one in the long jump.
Agneta Westen of Utah State (cross country/track) was also named to the first team.
- Tennis - BYU's women's tennis team, ranked first among 14 squads in the final 1993 ITA Central Region poll, has garnered three individual regional awards.
Coach Ann Valentine was voted ITA/Wilson Coach of the Year for the third time; senior Jennifer Holmes was given the Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship Award for the second time; and freshman Jennifer Saret was named Rookie Player of the Year.
