City employees say they are frustrated and unhappy with what they say are substandard wages and the city's failure to improve them.

In a recent City Council meeting, police Sgt. Jim Geier accused the council of meeting behind closed doors and reneging on an agreement to increase salaries in the police department.Geier, a spokesman for the Logan Police Benefits Association, said the 2.5 percent pay hike awarded to city employees is "only a Band-Aid approach."

The city seems to find money for expensive projects but does not provide for its most valuable asset - its employees, Geier said.

Council Chairwoman Louise Brown called Geier's allegation about a closed-door meeting "absolutely untrue."

Brown said the council will pay for a study on comparable salaries and review the issue in October.

The study should compare Logan city employees' salaries with the private sector in Cache Valley, as well as with city workers elsewhere in the state, council members said.
