Two-time World Cup overall freestyle champion Trace Worthington of Park City injured his right knee in training and will miss up to five weeks of skiing, the U.S. Ski Team said Friday.

Worthington, 24, suffered ligament damage in his right knee during training Thursday for the World Cup freestyle stop here. The injury occurred when the binding on his ski did not release when he landed poorly during a training jump. The injury means Worthington will not be able to earn a spot on the Olympic team by competing. Chances remain high, however, if Worthington is healthy he would be named as a discretionary choice on the 12-member U.S. team which will have three men and three women in aerials, a new Olympic medals event for 1994, and moguls.
