Virginia B. J. Farnes passed away peacefully on September 29, 1994, having lived 94 very productive years.

She was born in Salt Lake City, July 12, 1900, to George Henry and Edith Farnes Budd. In early life lived in Raymond, Alberta, Canada.She served an LDS mission to Hawaii from 1920-22 and graduated with highest honors from the University of Utah in 1925, having served as the first woman student body president. She was recognized by the two top student-activity organizations for her contributions to the University and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma social sorority. Received the University of Utah Merit of Honor Award from the Alumni Association in 1976.

She married Andrew T. (Drew) Jacobsen in the Salt Lake Temple September 27, 1925. He died in 1964. She married Rodney B. Farnes in 1970. He preceded her in death in 1990.

A gifted writer and author, she wrote two "Jimmy Microbe" books that were used as texts for many years in the Salt Lake Public Schools.

She worked for 14 years for the University of Utah and served several years as assistant superintendent of the Primary Children's Hospital.

She is survived by four children, Janice J. Anderson (Arthur S.), Provo, Ut.; Shirlee J. Knell (Dr. James K.), Salt Lake City; Owen D. Jacobsen (Joyce Whitely), Jacksonville, Fla.; Carol J. Whetten (Dr. John T.), Los Alamos, New Mex.; 18 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a sister, Catherine Gates (Dr. Claudius Y), Walnut Creek, Calif.; a brother, Douglas F. Budd, Cambria, Calif. A sister, Farnese B. Pearsall and a brother, George F. Budd preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday, October 3, 1994, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call Monday, from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services.

Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
