The American Institute of Architects (AIA) of Utah has honored five architectural firms for excellence in architectural design.
An independent jury of distinguished architects from the San Francisco Bay area has selected six architectural projects by Utah architects for awards.Honor Awards, the highest award presented, went to FFKR Architecture/Planning/Interior Design, Blackner Architects and Brixen & Christopher Architects, all of Salt Lake City.
The Joseph Smith Memorial Building, designed by FFKR, was judged to be an excellent restoration and transformation of an important building. Blackner's Seven Canyons Fountain, in Liberty Park, was judged an intriguing concept that combined recreation with education in a public park. St. James Episcopal Church, designed by Brixen, was honored for creating a restrained and eloquently detailed construction with a simple, humane and uplifting interior.
Merit awards went to Brixen & Christopher Architects for the Chapman Branch Library Renovation, Allen & Millo Associates for The Cannon Residence, and 15.15 Architects, Park City, for the Wasatch Brew Pub.
