Pickets against the Pure Pleasure adult bookstore in Mesquite, Nev., say they will reduce the size of their recently erected shelter to exempt it from building codes.

The new shelter for Help Our Moral Environment (HOME) was red-tagged by the city Tuesday because the group failed to get a building permit for the 12-by-15-foot structure. The electrically heated building was erected last week on private land adjacent to the bookstore, the target of a 24-hour protest by HOME since September 1993.

City ordinance requires a permit for any structure larger than 120 square feet.

"We're a little ticked off because we were told we did not have to have a permit for a 180-square-foot structure," HOME President Dena Hoff said. "We spent a great deal of time checking into this because we are in no way lawbreakers like Pure Pleasure," she said.
