Parowan City Manager James R. Burns has been asked to resign following his arrest last weekend on charges of drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a license and having an open container in his city vehicle.

Burns, 41, was arrested Thursday by Iron County deputy Jody Edwards. Burns posted $1,115 bail Friday and was released from the Iron County Correctional Facility.Parowan Mayor Jim Rasmussen said the City Council on Wednesday voted 3-2 to ask for Burns' resignation. The mayor said Burns has agreed and will work with the city in making a smooth transition.

The mayor said the search for a new city manager will begin shortly.
