A former head electrician at a Carbon County coal mine has been awarded $50,000 in a settlement.
The White Oak Mining and Construction Co. near Helper has agreed to pay the sum to Joseph Feichko, who was fired in January.Feichko had told members of the Mine Safety & Health Administration that he was discharged after reporting mine safety problems to management.
"Federal mine safety law gives all mineral industry workers the right to raise safety or health concerns on the job without endangering their livelihood," said Davitt McAteer, assistant secretary of labor for mine safety and health.
