Michiko Tsutsui Shimamura, age 71, passed away peacefully on December 14, 1994 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born April 27, 1923 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Hitoshi and Tonami Masuda Kawaguchi. Married Yasuhara Shimamura.She was a devoted English school teacher in Japan for 35 years with many students who took good care of her and continued to comfort her when she came to the USA. She has many "adopted" family members in America, whom we would like to thank.
Survived by her husband, Yasuharu Shimamura; children, "Cookie" and Drew Chappell, Daniel and Dee Tsutsui; grandchildren, Jennifer Tsutsui and Tracy Hemsley, Lisa Tsutsui and Shane Coburn, Joseph and Kelly Horner, Joshua Horner; great-grandchildren, Nicky and Chris Hemsley. Michiko was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her 3rd great-grandchild she "knew" would be a girl named Michiko. Also survived by: two sisters, Emiko and Chieko, and brother, Bob. Preceded in death by two children Ronald and Jennifer Tsutsui, her parents, and a sister, Toshie Tsubaki.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 1994, at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple, 211 West 100 South (for family only). Friends may call on Monday evening at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral directors, Deseret Mortuary.
