A panhandler robbed a Salt Lake man at knife point Thursday morning near a downtown business.
The man was walking east on 200 South about 6 a.m. when a panhandler stepped in front of him on the sidewalk and asked for spare change. "No. I don't have any," he responded, walking past the beggar.The robber reached into his front pants pocket, pulled out a knife and said, "Look, I want some money now!" according to a Salt Lake police report.
"Give me all your belongings," said the robber. The man handed over a cellular phone valued at $400, a checkbook and $100 cash. The suspect then walked west on 200 South while the victim boarded a bus for home.
