More than 850,000 visitors toured the new Bountiful LDS Temple during a six-week open house that ended Saturday.

LDS Church spokesman Don LeFevre said an exact total wouldn't be available by press time as visitors were allowed inside the temple for the last time late Saturday. Some 40,000 volunteers from Davis County offered their services to help accommodate the thousands of temple visitors.Open to the public since Nov. 5, the temple will now close to the general public in preparation for formal dedicatory services scheduled for Jan. 8-14. After that time, only members of the LDS Church holding the proper written credentials will be admitted.

The temple is the eighth built in Utah.
