Rodney Dangerfield still gets no respect, and he's sick of it. No joke.

Despite moving from comedy into drama with his supporting role in Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers," the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has rejected Dangerfield's application for membership. The bug-eyed comedian-actor lacks "enough of the kind of roles that allow a performer to demonstrate the mastery of the craft," according to a letter signed by Roddy McDowall, chairman of the academy's Actors Branch Executive Committee.

"This is ridiculous, especially since thousands of academy members haven't done any movies to speak of," the 73-year-old Dangerfield said. "People still quote lines from `Caddyshack,' which I did in 1980."
