Princess Diana is expected to skip Christmas lunch with her mother-in-law and estranged husband this year, as she has done for the past two holiday seasons, according to British newspapers.

Queen Elizabeth II invited Diana to the royal Sandringham residence in Norfolk, about 100 miles north of London, for the royals' traditional Christmas break. The Sun tabloid reported that Diana would attend some of the royal Christmas observances but bow out before lunch, as has been her pattern since separating from Prince Charles in December 1992.
