Former Florida Marlins first baseman Orestes Destrade's $3.7 million contract for next season is the highest ever in Japan, the Kyodo News Service reported today.

The Seibu Lions announced Friday that Destrades would return to the team he helped lead to the Japan Series championship from 1990-1992. He led Japan in home runs all three years.Kyodo said the 1995 salary would exceed the previous high for a foreign player. Rob Deer signed a $2.5 million deal with the Hanshin Tigers this year.
