Our beloved wife and mother, Elizabeth M. Liebergesell, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on the evening of Dec. 15, 1994, after a very short battle with a most aggressive brain tumor.
She began her forever questing and adventurous life on Jan. 4, 1924, in Paderborn, Germany, as Elizabeth Stiensmeier Claes. Her formal education began at the University of Muenster in Germany and concluded at the University of Utah with an M.A. in German. She continued her pursuit of knowledge to the time of her illness.She taught German and Latin at Judge Memorial High School for 18 years. In later years she volunteered as a tutor at Lynn Bennion Elementary School. She married Otto Liebergesell July 22, 1951, in Paderborn. She followed him the next year to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she found satisfaction in pursuing her many interests, mostly academics, the arts, and nature.
Missing Elizabeth and her indomitable spirit are her husband, Otto, and children, Michael and Monika, of Salt Lake City; and Magdalen of Boise, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Utah Chapter of the Habitat for Humanity, 2300 West 1700 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84104 and the Judge Memorial High School Development Fund, 650 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84102.
A memorial mass will be celebated Wednesday, December 21, 1994, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 670 South 1100 East, where friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Committal to take place in Paderborn, Germany.
