The deadline for Utah companies to apply for an unusual marketing opportunity is now Jan. 17.

QVC Inc., a television shopping network, will showcase Utah products during a special live telecast from the state on April 1, 1995. Originally, applications were due Dec. 5.As part of the Quest for America's Best-QVC's 50 in 50 Tour, QVC is featuring products from all of the states. Evans & Sutherland purchases Portable Graphics

Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. has purchased Portable Graphics Inc., Austin, Texas, a company marketing libraries and tool kits for developing 3D graphics for hardware platforms.

Under terms of the acquisition, E&S purchased all of Portable Graphics' stock for $1 million. Portable Graphics is now a wholly owned subsidiary of E&S and will continue to operate in Austin.

This follows announcements by Digital Equipment Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., IBM and Sun Microsystems that positions E&S as the primary supplier of high-performance 3D graphics hardware.

Lloyd Turner, president of the Design Systems Division for E&S, said, "The acquisition of Portable Graphics adds the software expertise and market experieince we need to provide world-class graphics solutions to a broad customer base."

Utah CPA committee meets Wednesday at S.L. hotel

The Management of an Accounting Practice Committee of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants will meet at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, in Little America to hear Kevin L. Simister, a partner in the Orem CPA firm of Hawkins, Cloward & Simister, talk about the team approach to marketing.

F.U.R.N. Club honors R.C. Willey as top retailer

R.C. Willey Home Furnishings has been named retailer of the year by the F.U.R.N. Club, the Rocky Mountain affiliate of the International Home Furnishings Representatives Association.

William Child, chief executive officer, and Sheldon Child, president, received a plaque during the group's second annual holiday and awards dinner in Denver. In 1990, R.C. Willey was named national retailer of the year.

R.C. Willey has furniture stores in South Salt Lake, Syracuse, Murray, Orem and West Valley City/Kearns and a clearance center in West Jordan. In January the company will open a carpet store at 5520 Van Winkle Expressway.
