A weekly newspaper that serves the city's black community was firebombed early Tuesday and its newsroom damaged.
Someone threw the firebomb through a window into the building that houses the Cincinnati Herald, said John Heltman, an investigator with the Fire Division. The newspaper recently published an article criticizing Muslims and had received threats, an official said.Firefighters rescued a man from a second-floor apartment in the building. No one was injured, Heltman said. He estimated damage at $12,000.
The fire "totaled" the Herald's newsroom, but the staff will put out this week's edition, said Publisher William Spillers. It is due to hit the streets Thursday.
"The newsroom isn't usable," Spillers said. "But we can use other areas to get it done."
