Mike Springer shot an even-par 72 to complete a wire-to-wire victory in the Greater Greensboro Open on Sunday.
Springer, who earned $270,000 for his first PGA Tour victory, finished with a 13-under 275 total on the Forest Oaks course. Ed Humenik (68), Hale Irwin (69) and Brad Bryant (71) tied for second at 278.Play was disrupted for about 15 minutes when protesters sat down in the 10th fairway to protest tournament sponsor Kmart's negotiations with a union representing workers at a local distribution center. Authorities arrested 64 people.
"My goal every year is to win three tournaments, play solid, be a top 30 money winner," said Springer, who has played three years on the PGA Tour.
In Dallas, Larry Gilbert recorded his first victory on the Senior PGA Tour with a one-stroke margin over George Archer and Rocky Thompson in the Reunion Pro-Am. Gilbert, who earned $75,000, shot a 3-under-par 67 for an 8-under 202 total.
