Services will be held Saturday, July 30, 1994 for Dr. William K. Hansen. At the time of his death, he was serving as bishop of his ward. He died July 16, 1994 in a boating accident, while on a church youth outing.
William K. Hansen was born June 21, 1934 to Leland A. and Bertha Mae Hansen in Twin Falls, Idaho. He married Faun Okerlund, March 16, 1959 in the Logan LDS Temple. He was the fifth of seven children. By working on the family farm, he learned an early work ethic, which was evident throughout his life of service. He served as a missionary in the Danish mission from 1954 to 1957 and maintained association with many of those with whom he served. He then attended Utah State University, where he was elected Jr. Class President and a Student Body Officer. He was a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta national medical honor society, Blue Key honorary, and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. It was at Utah State that he met and married his beloved wife, Faun.Dr. Hansen graduated from the University of Oregon School of Dentistry, Class of 1963, as a Doctor of Medical Dentistry. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri from 1963 to 1965. He later served as the Charter President of the Alta Academy of Dental Practices. He was president of the Utah Academy of General Dentistry and was on th Board of Directors for the Salt Lake District Dental Society. He was a regional and national delegate of the Academy of General Dentistry and became a Fellow in 1989. At the time of his death, he was a participant in the AGD Mastership Program. He was elected to membership in Pierre Fauchard Academy in 1990. In November 1993, he was given the honor of election to the Academy of Dentistry International. He was committed to quality dentistry and to the personal care of his patients.
His lifetime of church service included bishop of the Monument Park 8th Ward, Salt Lake Foothill Stake, High Priest group leader, stake and ward Young Men's president, Seventies president, stake and ward Sunday School president, high councilman, bishop's counselor, and branch president. He was especially committed to the Scouting program, where he served as Scoutmaster and Scout Commissioner and a variety of other assignments and awards. He participated in Woodbadge Training and received the Scoutmaster's Key.
In his full life, his strongest commitment was to his family. Whether individually or collectively, he loved to be with his wife, children and grandchildren, and participated in family activities of gardening, snow and water skiing, building and creating, camping, counseling and teaching. He loved people and will be missed by many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Faun; and their children, Scott T. and Ruthanne Hansen Jackson, John N. and Elizabeth Erin Hansen Henrie, Kent William and Heather Gillette Hansen, Rees U. and Lyssa Jane Hansen Jensen.
His beloved grandchildren are: Elizabeth Anne Jackson, Scott William Jackson, David Taylor Jackson, Matthew Kent Jackson, John William Henrie, James Nathanial Henrie, Tanner Rich Henrie, Nathanial William Hansen, Coleman Gillette Hansen, Rees William Jensen and James Patrick Jensen. His brothers are Leland J. Hansen, John D. Hansen, Gordon L. Hansen, Vernon A. Hansen, and James E. Hansen. His sister is Veon M. Hansen Horman.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 30, at the Monument Park 8th Ward, 1794 Texas St., Salt Lake City, 12:30 p.m. Family and friends may call Friday evening at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, from 6-8:30 p.m. and Saturday morning at the chapel beginning at 10:45.
