In addition to all the changes on the networks, Utah's local station are making a few schedule changes of their own.
KUTV-Ch. 2KUTV has a couple of new shows on its schedule, and perhaps more significantly, it has shifted the time slots of several returning shows. (Most of these changes are effective this week)
The new shows are:
- "Extra: The Entertainment Magazine" - a program patterned after "Entertainment Tonight" - joins the weeknight schedule at 11:35 p.m.
"Extra" airs this week only weekdays at 4 p.m.
(And an hourlong weekend version of "Extra" can be seen late Sunday nights at 12:15 a.m. beginning Sept. 11.)
- Beginning Monday, Sept. 12, a new syndicated version of "The Price Is Right" will be seen weekdays at 4 p.m.
- The syndicated game show "Truth or Tabloid" joins the weeknight schedule on Monday, Sept. 12, at 1:35 a.m.
- And "American Gladiators" moves to Ch. 2 on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 12:05 a.m.
Shows shifting times slots include "Donahue," which moves to 10 a.m.; "Days of Our Lives," which shifts to 2 p.m.; and "Hard Copy," which moves to 4:30 p.m.
KTVX-Ch. 4
Just a few changes at the local ABC affiliate.
- Ch. 4 has taken "Baywatch" away from Ch. 14 and will begin airing the syndicated series Sundays at 4 p.m. beginning Oct. 2.
- The syndicated comedy series "The Newz" begins airing weeknights at 1:35 a.m. on Sept. 12 (or early Sept. 13).
Beginning on Tuesday of this week, KTVX shifted a pair of returning talk shows. "Jenny Jones" moved from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., replacing "Rolanda." And "Montel" now airs twice each weekday - a new episode in its regular 3 p.m. time slot and a repeat at 10 a.m.
KSL-Ch. 5
KSL will have a new look for both weekday mornings and weekday afternoons beginning Sept. 18.
Ch. 5's new shows are:
- "Eyewitness News This Morning," an hourlong local newscast that will air at 6 a.m.
(That bumps "CBS This Morning" to the 7-9 a.m. time slot.)
- "Susan Powter," a half-hour talk show featuring the woman from all those exercise info-mmericals, will be seen at 2 p.m.
- The hourlong syndicated series "Judge for Yourself" will be seen at 3 p.m. It combines talk and "the court of public opinion," and is planning a series of shows on the O.J. Simpson case.
Ch. 5 is also adding a couple of shows in late, late-night (or early, early-morning).
- "Dennis Praeger," a conservative talk show, will be seen weeknights at 1:05 a.m.
- "Marilu," a talk show hosted by Marilu Henner ("Evening Shade") will be seen weeknights at 2:05 a.m.
- And a syndicated "Lonesome Dove" series will be seen Fridays at 9 p.m.
KSTU-Ch. 13
The local Fox-owned station adds reruns of "The Simpsons," a new daytime talk show and several new kids shows to its lineup.
New shows debuting Sept. 12 are:
- "Transformers Generation 2," an animated series, at 6:30 a.m.
- "V.R. Troopers," another live-action series from the producers of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," at 7 a.m.
- The animated "Bobby's World" joins the weekday lineup at 7:30 a.m.
- The animated "Mighty Max" debuts at 8 a.m.
- Still another live-action series, "Super Human Samurai Syber Squad," debuts at 9 p.m.
- A new talk show, "Gordon Elliott," debuts at 1 p.m. ("Geraldo" moves to 11 a.m.)
- The Fox Children's network added "Tazmania" to its weekday schedule at 3:30 p.m., and moved "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" to 4:30 p.m.
On Monday, Sept. 19:
- "The Simpsons" will be seen weeknights at 6:30 p.m. ("Coach" moves to 11 p.m.)
Beginning Sept. 17, KSTU adds one morning cartoon and three shows its late-Saturday schedule:
- The animated "Phantom 2040" will air at 10 a.m.
- "Sightings," an hourlong syndicated show about UFOs and paranormal phenomena, at 11 p.m. ("Sightings" will be rebroadcast Sundays - early Mondays - at 1 a.m.)
- "The Extraordinary," an hourlong show that's sort of a cross between "Sightings" and "Unsolved Mysteries," at midnight.
- And "Forever Knight," a syndicated hour about a vampire who's a police detective, at 1 a.m.
KJZZ-Ch. 14
As always, lots of changes from Salt Lake's independent station. (Unless otherwise noted, the new shows debut the week of Sept. 12.)
The weekday changes include:
- "Suzanne Somers," a new talk show featuring the star of `Step By Step," at 10 a.m.
- "Aladdin" joins the Disney Afternoon lineup at 4:30 p.m. (Began Sept. 5)
- "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" will air Monday-Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
- "Roseanne" will air at both 6 and 6:30 p.m.
KJZZ has added three new shows to its 7 p.m. lineup, and shifted some others around.
- The new "Heaven Help Us," about angels who help ordinary people, will be seen Mondays. (Began Sept. 5)
- The science-fiction series "Babylon 5" moves to Tuesdays.
- The action/adventure hour "Renegade" moves to Wednesdays. (Moved Sept. 7)
- Lee Horsely and Lynda Carter star in "Hawkeye: The First Frontier," set in the 18th century American frontier against the backdrop of the Frech and Indian Wars, which will air on Thursdays.
- "Robin's Hoods," a new light action/detective drama, will be seen Fridays. (Began Sept. 2.)
- And "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues" moves to Saturdays.
KJZZ is planning a movie Monday-Saturday at 8 p.m. And Ch. 14 has an entirely new late-night lineup:
- "Sports Ticket," a five-minute local sports news update, airs at 10 p.m.
- "Top Cops" is set for 10:05 p.m.
- Syndicated episodes of "Northern Exposure" will be seen at 10:35 p.m. (Begins Sept. 26)
- Paramount's replacement for Arsenio, "Jon Stewart" (who had a talk show on MTV) will air at 11:35 p.m.
- And "Last Call," a new late-night show from former NBC President Brandon Tartikoff, is set for 12:35 a.m.
New children's show on Saturday morning include:
- The animated "Baby Huey" at 6:30 a.m.
- The animated "Battletech" at 8 a.m. (Begins Sept. 24)
- The animated "Monster Force" at 8:30 a.m.
- The animated "Mutant League" at 9 a.m.
- The live-action teen show "Sweet Valley High" at 10 a.m.
And new children's shows on Sunday include:
- The animated "Starcom: U.S. Space Force" at 8:30 a.m. (Begins Sept. 11)
- "The Marvel Action Hour" at 10 a.m. (Begins Sept. 25.)
- "National Geographic" at 5 p.m.
- And "Space Precinct," a futuristic cop show set in the year 2040 and starring Ted Shackelford ("Knots Landing") at 8 p.m. (Begins Oct. 9)
Also, "Jazz Journal" returns on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 10:30 p.m.
KOOG-Ch. 30
The Ogden station has a bunch of changes, which take effect the week of Sept. 11, giving them their best lineup ever:
- "St. Elsewhere" will be seen Sundays at 7 p.m.
- "WKRP in Cincinnati" joins the weekday lineup at 5:30 p.m.
- "Newhart" follows at 6 p.m.
- "Doogie Howser, M.D." follows at 6:30 p.m.
- "Hill Street Blues" follows at 7 p.m.
- "Beverly Hills, 90210" will be seen Wednesdays at 11 p.m., with a rebroadcast Saturdays at 6 p.m. (although that rebroadcast will be seen Saturday, Sept. 17 only at 7 p.m.)
- George Segal stars in "High Tide" is a new hourlong syndicated action/adventure show, which debuts Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
And Ch. 30 has added a string of kids' shows weekdays at 5 p.m.:
- "Pick Your Brain," a children's game show, on Mondays.
- "Toby Terrier," a new show featuring puppets, on Tuesdays.
- "Growing Up Wild," a combination of animation and nature photography, on Wednesdays.
- "Adventures in Wonderland," a live action fantasy show from Disney, on Thursdays.
- And "Boogies Diner," a new teen/young adult sitcom, on Fridays.
